Catharsis, Colorado Mesa University BFA Senior Exhibition

The Colorado Mesa University Art & Design Department presents Catharsis, the first of four exhibits featuring artwork from seniors graduating from the BFA Studio Art program. The exhibits will be shown in the downtown art gallery, 437CO, from February 1-24.

As part of their “Senior Seminar” course, students coordinate the senior exhibits as preparation for future professional careers in visual arts.Catharsis will showcase the work of the following graduating seniors:

  • Michaela Cross’ brightly colored and contrasting acrylic paintings portray animals in scenes that reflect joy and laughter. 
  • Cynthia Hendrickson’s minimalist works address emotional conflicts by utilizing unique color combinations.
  • Tanner Hoffman’s cast metal figurative forms deal with emotion and tragedy.
  • Terri Vanbenschoten’s mixed media paintings incorporate multiple layers depicting architecture, maps, and foliage.

437CO, CMU’s art gallery, is located at 437 Colorado Avenue in Grand Junction, Colorado. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 12-5pm and admission is free. On Friday, February 2 from 5-8pm there will be a public reception to view the exhibit and meet the artists, with an Artist Talk scheduled for 5:30pm. Wine from Carlson Vineyards and beer from Kannah Creek Brewing Company will be available for purchase at the reception. For more information, call the Art & Design Department at 970.248.1833.
