CMU Promise

The CMU Promise covers the student's share of in-state tuition for students meeting the eligibility. It does not apply to students who have a Bachelor's degree, are non-degree seeking, or are enrolled in master's/doctoral programs.

Eligibility Requirements:

Annual family income is $70,000 or less
Completed FAFSA/CASFA for the current academic year
Colorado residency as determined by the student's Admissions Application
Pursuing a financial aid eligible undergraduate degree at CMU or CMU Tech.

About COF

The College Opportunity Fund (COF) provides a stipend that pays a portion of in-state tuition for eligible undergraduate students in Colorado. The stipend is paid to the institution on a per-credit-hour basis at an amount set annually by the General Assembly.

Eligibility Requirements:

An undergraduate student
Classified as a Colorado resident and being charged in-state tuition (some exceptions apply)
Admitted and enrolled at a Colorado public institution (e.g., CMU) or a participating private institution

Early Start Program

The Early Start program allows new students to move in early and begin classes before their fall semester. Students will get a head start on their degree, become familiar with campus resources, and build connections with faculty and other students.

Credit Hours

To be considered a fulltime student, you must take 12 or more credit hours. Many grants and scholarships require fulltime enrollment to be eligible.If your goal is to finish your degree in a normal time frame, it is recommended to keep an average of 15 credit hours a semester.

Maximum recommended load is 18 credit hours. Consultation with your advisor is strongly recommended before overloading your schedule.

CTE-Health: Health-related Career and Technical Education courses.
Note: Some CMU Tech programs (Aviation and Peace Officers Academy) pay on-campus tuition rates.As you register for classes, certain courses will also have course fees to cover additional materials.

Meal Plans

Meal plans are available to all students and are mandatory for those living in a traditional or suite-style residence hall. For students living in Aspen and Wingate Apartments, the room rate includes 7 meals per week + $100 per semester.

Additional supplies

The estimated cost of course materials is $125 - $150 per course. Supply costs significantly vary depending upon student preference and course requirements.

Course materials and supplies are sold at The Maverick Store, Colorado Mesa University's Bookstore and Fan Shop. Other items sold at the store include general books, art supplies, basic school supplies, calculators, imprinted clothing, backpacks, computers, and gift items.

Additionally, students are strongly encouraged, to the extent possible, to have a personal computer for their use while attending Colorado Mesa University.

Institutional scholarships are awarded by CMU based on academic performance. Awards vary by merit level and may stack with other forms of aid.

Housing Residency Policy

Colorado Mesa University is committed to the success of our students. Knowing that students who live on campus and engage in activities have a greater success rate for graduation, CMU has a two-year (four semester) on-campus living requirement (subject to availability of space), unless exempt.

First-time students are only eligible for residence halls and not apartments.

How Tuition Is Determined

Tuition rates at Colorado Mesa University are based on your residency classification and, in some cases, the state you live in.

Residency categories include:

In-State (Colorado): Available only to students classified as Colorado residents.
Out-of-State: Applies to students from states that do not qualify for special tuition programs.
Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE): Reduced tuition for eligible undergraduate students from participating western states.
Mountain Plains (MP): Reduced tuition for students from select Mountain Plains states.
International: Applies to students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
