Tri-Ute Partnership Empowers Ute Mountain Learning Center with CMU Tech’s Mobile Learning Lab

In a groundbreaking collaboration between Colorado Mesa University and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, the recent Tri-Ute convening on CMU’s campus marked the genesis of an innovative partnership aimed at advancing education and skill development within the tribal community.

One of the initial fruits of this partnership is the deployment of CMU Tech’s Mobile Learning Lab to the Ute Mountain Learning Center. This dynamic educational initiative involved a two-day training program designed to equip members of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe with new skills and enhance existing ones in areas such as electricity and wiring fundamentals, electrical safety, introduction to electronics, and robotics, among others.

The Mobile Learning Lab, a state-of-the-art educational resource offered by CMU Tech, made possible by the Sturm Family and ANB Bank, brings hands-on learning experiences directly to communities, transcending geographical barriers and fostering accessible education.

The training sessions, facilitated by CMU Tech Technical Instructor of Mechatronics Robbi Grimm, offers participants a unique opportunity to engage with practical learning modules, empowering them to explore and master various aspects of technology and electrical engineering. From basic principles to advanced applications, the curriculum is tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of those who wish to develop new skills or enhance their current skill set, fostering a learning environment that is both relevant and engaging.

Through this partnership, CMU and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe are not only building bridges between academic institutions and tribal communities but also fostering a spirit of mutual respect, collaboration and empowerment. By leveraging resources such as the Mobile Learning Lab, CMU is expanding its commitment to inclusive education and community engagement while empowering members of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe to pursue their educational and professional aspirations.

The impact of this partnership extends far beyond the boundaries of the training sessions themselves, offering a glimpse into a future where education is not confined to traditional classrooms but rather embraced as a dynamic and inclusive journey of lifelong learning. These initiatives standing as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration, innovation and inclusive education in shaping a brighter and more equitable future for all.
