WCCC Receives Million Dollars to Build a Welding Mobile Learning Lab with Commercial Driver License Training

The new welding and CDL mobile learning lab will be the second to join WCCC's fleet after the mechatronics lab was made possible by the Sturm Family and ANB Bank in 2019

Western Colorado Community College (WCCC) is thrilled to announce that it's been approved for a grant in the amount of $1.1 million to build a mobile learning lab focused on welding and commercial driver licensing by the Skill Advance Colorado Mobile Learning Lab Assistance Program. This grant approval is a testament to WCCC’s continuous effort to meet Coloradans where the job market and economy are heading.

"Receiving this grant reinforces that continued focus on career and technical education is more important than ever when it comes to meeting our region’s workforce needs," said Vice President for Community College Affairs Brigitte Sündermann. "This grant enables us to deliver high-quality training, equip the current workforce with additional skills pertaining to their industry as well as help them advance in their careers.”

This mobile learning lab will be the second of its kind at WCCC, only with a different trade in mind. Thanks to a generous gift made by the Sturm Family and ANB Bank in 2019, WCCC developed the state-of-the-art Sturm-ANB Bank Mobile Learning Lab, which currently offers mechatronics courses to high school students, adult learners and employees enrolled in company training throughout Colorado with an emphasis on rural communities. WCCC is thrilled to begin building another learning lab that will support western Colorado employees and employers alike.

The grant, awarded by the Colorado Community College System and the Office of Economic Development, will serve as invaluable support for WCCC's efforts in enhancing its welding and commercial driver license training programs, allowing those in the industry to continue to develop their skills in an incredible mobile facility. The funding will facilitate the expansion of educational opportunities and foster economic growth within the community.
