Undergraduate Teaching Program Application

Admission to the Colorado Mesa University Teacher Education program requires submission of a formal application to the Center for Teacher Education (CTE). Application materials must be submitted to the CTE office, Room 109L, DH by October 15 for spring admission and March 15 for fall admission. Students may not enroll in any upper level education courses until they have been formally admitted into the program. Admission is not automatic and ALL program admission requirements must be met for consideration.

Teacher Ed Admission Requirements - Undergraduate

  1. Admission to Colorado Mesa University (with application fee) through Admissions.

  2. Formal evaluation of all transfer credits by the Registrar's Office.

  3. Evidence of declared major in state-approved licensure discipline - DegreeWorks report or program sheet approved or signed by academic advisor.

  4. Successful completion of the following courses or approved equivalent courses with grade of B or better:
    • ENGL 111 & 112
    • PSYC 233
    • EDUC 115 & 215

  5. Official score report for PRAXIS CORE with passing score of 162 on the Writing exam.  A score of 152-161 on the PRAXIS CORE Writing test may allow for probationary admittance.  Contact program coordinator/advisor for remediation steps.

  6. Successful completion of following course in Mathematics or approved equivalent:

    • Elementary - MATH 105 with grade B or better.
    • Secondary or K-12 - MATH 110 or higher with grade C or better

  7. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (including transfer and CMU coursework) is required for admission to the Teacher Education Program. Transfer GPA will be calculated by the Registrar's Office for those courses transferring to the degree program. A minimum GPA of 2.8 is also required overall, in content major coursework, and in all education coursework prior to the student teaching internship.

  8. Completion of a Center for Teacher Education (CTE) application packet.
