To be eligible for studying abroad, students must meet the following requirements and submit all items required by both ISEP and CMU prior to the deadline:

  1. At the time of application, students must have completed or be in the process of completing a minimum of 24 credit hours.
  2. Have a 2.75 or higher GPA at the time of application.
  3. Submit the academic reference, transcript, and language evaluation (depending on program) as part of the online ISEP application process. Instructions for these items are found in your online application.
  4. Submit a personal statement (Word document or PDF) to the CMU Study Abroad Office at [email protected] within 2 weeks of submitting your application online at, or a minimum of 3 business days prior to application deadline:
    • The statement should include information about you and your academic interests and goals, and should explain the reasoning behind your desire to study abroad. Address how your study abroad experience will support your personal, academic, and longer-term professional goals, and discuss what challenges you anticipate and how you plan to overcome them.
    • Be specific, use proper grammar and punctuation. Demonstrate that you have arrived at a careful decision.
    • The statement is an important part of your nomination and used to help determine the degree to which your program choice(s) are a strong fit for you.
    • Statements should be no less than 1 page double-spaced and no more than 2 pages double-spaced in length.
