That’s what happened when almost 70 students enrolled in Western Colorado Community College manufacturing-related programs met with local representatives of 10 manufacturing companies at WCCC’s first hiring event targeting specific academic disciplines in late April.
Acting Vice President of Community College Affairs Brigitte Sundermann said the event was well attended and very well received by both students and the companies represented.
“The employers talked about how wonderful it was,” Sundermann said. “It is an event we plan to repeat, hopefully near the end of each semester. We will be looking at targeting other academic disciplines and the companies that hire students with those specific skills as well as continuing to focus on manufacturing.”
Companies represented at the April 25 event at WCCC included Bonsai Design, Bulldog Machine & Production, Capco, CoorsTek, Copeland Supply, Jabil Lewis Engineering, Leitner Poma, Reynolds Polymer Technologies, Inc., Schmueser & Associates
Students came from the machining, welding, mechanical engineering technology
Connections have been made. Next comes employment, be it full-time, part-time or an internship.
