Alumni success and growing the Maverick family

Alumni are finding themselves in a wide range of careers and two new initiatives aim to share their success stories with prospective undergraduates and urge students to prepare for their future at Colorado Mesa University.

Each week, recent alumni — like Camille Arnn, an engineering grad working at NASA and Dom Lewis, a mass communication major working at the Seattle Seahawks — are being highlighted on CMU’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn channels.

“We presumed, and recent survey data proved, that prospective students are increasingly curious about job opportunities after graduation. We also know that our recent alumni are doing some remarkable things in their careers,” said Katlin Birdsall, CMU’s creative content and social media manager.

“This social media campaign seemed a great way to highlight a few alumni for our prospective students, and also re-engage recent alumni with their alma mater,” Birdsall said.  

The alumni feature campaign complements a multi-media campaign launched earlier this fall. The “Find Yourself” campaign includes a series of new television/online video ads launched in September, as well as digital radio, online and out-of-home advertising.

“We’re aiming to break through the monotony of college advertising,” said Mike Mansheim, CMU’s executive director for marketing and communications.

“This campaign is a bit unconventional. We know CMU is a great option that offers incredible value to students, but we also know that finding the right fit is a challenging, highly-personal decision that students have to make for themselves,” Mansheim added.

“We’re being straight-forward with prospective students rather than solely relying on lofty claims and touting a bunch of facts and figures,” Mansheim said.

Taken together, Birdsall and Mansheim believe the two campaigns will encourage students to give high consideration to attending and realize the great opportunities that they’ll find at, and after, CMU.
