The herd is calling

Homecoming is the one time each year that all Mavericks — students, alumni, faculty, staff, families and community — come together to celebrate being part of the Maverick family. This year, Homecoming Week is October 21-29.

Along with events for Mavericks of all ages, homecoming is also one of the Alumni Association’s biggest events all year, when alums are invited to return to campus to reconnect with old friends and see how the university has grown and changed.

An alumni-highlighted event is the Victory Dinner. At the dinner this year’s Hall of Honoree Inductees Sean Van Elderen, Kurt Kissner and Stacey Vogel Schmitt; Distinguished Alumni Al Ruckman and Robert “Bob” Strong; and Distinguished Faculty Gigi Richard will be recognized.

There are numerous athletic events throughout the week, including women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball and football, which includes an Alumni Zone tailgating gathering.

Downtown Grand Junction is getting in on the action by hosting Mav Month for the entire month of October. Mav Month features deals for students, faculty and staff, and is also designed to welcome students, their families and alumni to the downtown area. There will also be a parade downtown featuring numerous student clubs, organizations, sporting teams and the Maverick Stampede band.

Events on campus include a carnival at The Plaza, roaring bonfire, Rowdy’s birthday celebration and numerous other student life events during the week.

On Friday, October 27, Mavericks on campus and across the country are encouraged to show their Maverick spirit by wearing Mav Gear for Mav Out Friday.

The herd is calling. Can you hear it?
