Students pouring iron at the 2016 Artober Fest
The iron pour is one of many events and highlights at the annual Artober Fest.

A multitude of activities highlight the third annual Artober Fest

CMU’s Art and Design Department will host its third annual Artober Fest, an outdoor art and design extravaganza on Oct. 19 from 10am to 3pm on Delta Field, just east of the Fine Arts building. The event will feature events and activities such as a Sidewalk Chalk Contest for high school artists, with prizes awarded to the top three artworks; a temporary graffiti wall, with spray paint provided; and a ceramics wheel throwing demonstration by ceramics faculty and students. Wheels and clay will be available for beginners to try wheel throwing.

The Ceramics Club will offer for sale an assortment of student ceramic pieces in CMU colors while the Animation, Film, Photography & Motion Design students will take portraits of participants with “celebrities” using a green screen. Matted prints are $5.00; digital copies are free.

Attendees may screen print a poster in the design of their choice! Paper, ink and instruction provided, as long as supplies last. The Printmaking Guild will block print T-shirts with a selection of new student designs. Bring your own shirt to be printed for $5, or buy a printed shirt from them for $10.

Mesa Emerging Designers will give away 2017 Artober Fest T-shirts while supplies last and will also sell upcycled furniture. Sculpture students will cast sculptures in molten iron during an Iron Pour. Pouring will begin around 12 pm and won’t stop until the iron runs out.

All proceeds from sales during Artober Fest benefit the individual student-run art clubs.
