CMU celebrates diversity with week-long Unity Fest

The community is invited to join in celebrating the many different cultures at Colorado Mesa University by attending one or all of the mostly free, public events.

Unity Fest is sponsored by CMU’s Cultural Diversity Board, which is a student organization designed to promote and support the ethnic and cultural groups on campus by providing educational resources and support services.

The fun begins on Saturday, April 1, with the 17th Annual Lu’au sponsored by the Ho’olokahi Polynesian Alliance. It will feature Kalani Pe’a, the first Maverick to win a Grammy. On February 2, his debut album E Walea — “be exuberant” — won for Best Regional Roots Music Album. A 2006 graduate now living on Maui, Pe’a credits a significant part of his success to time spent at Mesa.

Tickets for the lu’au are $30 for community members and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are available at the Information Desk in the University.
