Nominations sought for CMU Distinguished Alumni

Colorado Mesa University alumni are spread across the globe, actively making a difference in their communities and embodying the Maverick spirit. Each year since 1963, the CMU Alumni Association recognizes a few of these individuals for the annual Distinguished Alumni Award, the association’s highest honor. The CMU Alumni Association is currently seeking nominations for the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients. The deadline to nominate an alum is March 1.

The award is presented to individuals who graduated or attended the university (under any of its previous names — Grand Junction Junior College, Mesa College, Mesa State College) or Western Colorado Community College at least 10 or more years ago. Winners are recognized during CMU Homecoming week in October.

The nomination form asks for examples of the ways the nominee has distinguished his or herself professionally and/or through community service. The 2015 winners of the Distinguished Alumni Award were Ed Forsman, president of FCI Constructors, Inc., and Mark Martinez, head coach of San Diego State’s baseball team.

Distinguished Alumni Award nomination forms are available online or by contacting the CMU Alumni Association at 970.248.1525 or

The association also encourages alumni to keep former classmates and the university updated on their lives by submitting a class note to The Maverick, CMU’s magazine. The next issue will be published this spring.
