On Nov. 1, the Rim Rock Marathon wound through some of the most incredible scenery in the west. Proceeds benefited CMU’s track and field and cross country student-athlete scholarships.

Rim Rock Marathon returns with new features

Registration is in full swing for the seventh annual US Bank Rim Rock Marathon on Nov. 7 at 8am. Proceeds from the race go toward scholarships for student-athletes in Colorado Mesa University’s cross country and track and field programs.

The marathon, organized by CMU and the Greater Grand Junction Sports Commission, has twice been voted Most Scenic Marathon by Colorado Runner and is highlighted by the beauty and magnitude of the Colorado National Monument’s monoliths, canyons and plateaus. Runners will start at Grand Junction Gem and Mineral Club, wind up and over the monument and descend to the finish line at its new location — Circle Park in downtown Fruita.

Along with the new finish location, the Rim Rock Marathon is pairing up with Fruita Parks and Recreation to hold the inaugural Fruita 0.038 Marathon, a one-mile run for the community. Proceeds from the shorter race benefit Girls on the Run of Western Colorado and Cavalcade. The run kicks off at 9am.

Fruita’s 0.038 Marathon spectators and participants are invited to cheer on the marathon winners as they cross the finish line. Participants for both events can enjoy live entertainment, vendors and a beer garden in Circle Park.

Runners may register to participate in either the full-length 26.2-mile marathon or as two-person relay teams with each team member running approximately a half-marathon. Relay team slots sell out quickly.

Register now for the US Bank Rim Rock Marathon or the Fruita 0.038 Marathon.
