Kinesiology and Human Performance Lab launch lecture series

The newest lecture series at Colorado Mesa University comes from the Monfort Human Performance Lab and CMU’s Department of Kinesiology. The 2015-16 lecture series is free and open to the public. This semester’s lectures are presented below.

Oct. 1

“Exercise and Your Brain: the effects of exercise across the lifespan,” by Carmine Grieco, PhD
Maverick Center Room 155, 6:30–7:30pm

Grieco received his PhD from Old Dominion University and is now an assistant professor of kinesiology at CMU. His research focuses heavily on autonomic response in tactical athletes, yoga practitioners and type 2 diabetes. He is currently investigating the effect of melatonin on autonomic function.

“Sprint Interval Training: a healthy need for speed,” by Chris Bell, PhD, Colorado State University
Wubben Hall and Science Center Room 141, 6:30–7:30pm

Sprint interval training is now widely recognized as a time efficient alternative to traditional endurance exercise training. Although many of the resulting physiological benefits are similar between the training regimens, the weekly time commitment to sprint training is typically measured in minutes and not hours. From a scientific perspective, sprint interval training also represents a very powerful intervention, capable of evoking many physiological adaptations in a short period of time. During this seminar the health and sport performance benefits of sprint interval training will be broadly reviewed, and the utility of sprint interval training in physiology research will be discussed.

“The Monfort Human Performance Lab: What do they do in there?” by faculty of the kinesiology department and the Monfort Human Performance Lab

Area residents may not realize that the high tech analytical equipment and the expertise of CMU faculty at the performance lab are available to help them address physical concerns and maybe even improve their golf swing.
