Avenue Q opens on Sept. 25 and runs through Oct. 4 in the Moss Performing Arts Center’s Robinson Theatre

Theatre Arts Season opens with edgy Broadway musical Avenue Q

The Department of Theatre Arts will open its 2014-15 Theatre Arts season with the hilarious modern musical Avenue Q, an edgy show that satirizes the issues and anxieties around entering adulthood. The show addresses humorous adult issues, imitating the format of a beloved children’s show. Avenue Q is a place where puppets are friends, monsters are good and life lessons are learned. This is not your mother’s puppet show — it contains explicit content and is rated R.

All of the show’s puppets were built by CMU students under the direction of Costumer Heather Wagonner over the course of the past year. The actors have been mastering the art of puppeteering in order to bring audiences this Broadway favorite.

Avenue Q opens on Sept. 25 and runs through Oct. 4 in the Moss Performing Arts Center’s Robinson Theatre. Regular prices for students are $6 and for faculty and staff are $15.

On Sept. 25 only, rush tickets will be available for $4 for students and $5 for faculty and staff.

The rush performance will include a talk-back after the show with the actors. One rush-price ticket per MAVcard will be available the day of the show at the box office window. The rush performance also includes another special offer — at 6:30pm, students may purchase pizza in the Moss multipurpose room for an additional $1. Proceeds from pizza sales will benefit the CMU Drama Society. Tickets for Avenue Q are available at the box office by calling 970.248.1604, or may be purchased at coloradomesa.edu/mosstickets .
