A Word from the President

June6After a pretty frigid December and January, things are finally starting to thaw out on campus. I hope everyone is off to a great start this semester. As usual, we’re very busy wrapping up construction projects — and planning new ones — in order to meet student needs.

With construction progressing nicely on Escalante Hall, we are also working to complete the next phase of the student housing project at Garfield Hall. We will have rooms for 100 additional beds complete this fall, with the remaining space for 133 beds completed by spring of 2015. As we have discussed before, this “critical mass” of students living on campus has really transformed our institution for the better.

As most of you know, we are currently in the throes of our annual budget planning process. While we are hopeful that the State of Colorado will restore some of the funding that has been cut from our institution in recent years, we hope everyone appreciates that state funding accounts for less than 20 percent or our overall budget each year. With this in mind, we are carefully scrutinizing budget requests in order to fulfill our role and mission in a fiscally responsible manner.

Thank you for your hard work. I’ll be seeing you around campus.

Tim Foster, President
Colorado Mesa University
