Dazed and Confused: Rockestra to perform moive-themed concert

The Grand Junction Rockestra is set to take the stage for another concert in January, this time with a film theme. In Dazed and Confused: Rock Music in Movies, the Rockestra will play songs featured in movies over the years, by artists like ZZ Top, Journey, Adele, The Blues Brothers, Pearl Jam and more. The concert will be held on Jan. 18 at 7:30pm in Robinson Theatre.

CMU music theatre majors will join the Rockestra for “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” a fun and upbeat song from the musical Hairspray. Music faculty Christopher McKim will also be featured, singing Andrea Bocelli’s signature song, “Por Ti Volare”. The song was brought into the public eye more recently after Will Ferrell sang it in the movie Step Brothers.

The Grand Junction Rockestra is a professional, symphonic rock and roll orchestra, complete with a rock band rhythm section and six singers. It is led by Music Department Head Calvin Hofer. The Rockestra performs classic rock and roll tunes from the ‘50s to the present.

Proceeds from Rockestra concerts partially benefit the CMU Music Department. In addition, music students gain valuable performance experience playing with Rockestra, and technical theatre students get the opportunity to design lighting for a rock concert.
