CMU’s economic impact “vital” to region

CMU infused an estimated $351 million into the regional economy last year, according to the 2013 CMU Regional Economic Impact Study

“Community partnerships underwrite everything we do,” said President Foster. “A healthy, vibrant university… is key to our joint economic development efforts.”

“At a time when our local economy was still fragile, [CMU] provided the economic stimulus that was vital to the sustainability of our many small businesses,” said Diane Schwenke, Executive Director of the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce.

According to the report, direct expenditures totaled $33.5 million. Almost 76% was spent in western Colorado. The university paid $33 million in wages, with an estimated $20 million of that spent locally by employees.
