The Rural Flutist Opportunity Competition

The Rural Flutist Opportunity Competition is open to current high school seniors attending high schools in rural areas in Colorado and surrounding states. The winner may receive a Colorado Mesa University scholarship award. Entries are due January 24, 2020.

Kimberlee Goodman Biography

Dr. Kimberlee Goodman is a native of Arizona. She has lived in Columbus, Ohio since 1998 where she is an avid performer, educator, and advocate for the arts. She has been on the faculty of Otterbein University, in Westerville, Ohio since 2005. Dr. Goodman hosts an annual Flute Choir Day at Otterbein; this event regularly brings 40+ young flutists to the campus. She has also taught for the Lifelong Learning Institute in Columbus for more than a decade; her popular music appreciation courses regularly command audiences of over 100 participants. She also works full time for Jazz Arts Group of Columbus, America’s oldest not-for profit organization dedicated to jazz in the United States.

A devoted chamber musician, Kimberlee is a founding member of EOS Duo (flute and classical guitar) with fellow faculty member Karl Wohlwend. EOS Duo has given recitals at The Ohio State University, Otterbein University, and West Virginia University. In the summer of 2011 EOS Duo performed at the College Music Society’s International Conference in Seoul, Korea and at the 28th Annual Guitar Workshop at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She is also a founding member of PANdemonium4, a professional flute quartet based in Central Ohio.

Dr. Goodman is equally experienced as an orchestral musician; she currently serves as Principal Flute with the Westerville Symphony in Westerville, Ohio. She has been a regular substitute with the Mansfield Symphony in Mansfield, Ohio for many years. In an academic role, Dr. Goodman has presented lecture recitals at the College Music Society’s international conferences in Stockholm, Sweden (2015), Helsinki, Finland (2015), Buenos Aires, Argentina (2013), Seoul, Korea (2011), and Bangkok, Thailand (2007) and at CMS regional conferences in Dayton, Ohio (2013) and Missoula, Montana (2008).

Dr. Goodman holds flute performance degrees from Arizona State University (BM) and The Ohio State University (MM and DMA). Her principal teachers are Katherine Borst Jones and Dr. Trygve Peterson. She has performed in masterclasses for Alexa Still, Mathieu Dufour, Trevor Wye, Robert Willoughby, Arnold Jacobs, and Jim Walker.
