Across the country, schools and universities alike have shifted to a distance learning process with just a short amount of time for students, teachers, and parents to adjust to a new normal. Seeing the opportunity to offer academic support to help our local community in this time of transition, a number of Colorado Mesa University students proposed the Maverick Mentors program in coordination with School District 51. This program offers CMU student tutoring assistance to parents of children who are currently remote learning because of the global COVID-19 pandemic. These student mentors are volunteering their time with no cost to families or the school district.

CMU students are available to help District 51 students in grades 1-12 in a variety of subjects including math, social studies, English and science. A bilingual tutor is also available for reading, writing and elementary math. Parents can sign up for mentoring on a first come first serve basis using the form below. All tutoring sessions will occur on Zoom. Tutoring sessions will be recorded so that parents and students can use the material for later reference. Prior to engaging the session, parents will provide a brief on-screen consent approving the tutoring session.

For students without a tablet or computer, mentors are available via phone on a limited basis.
