Dr. Cox has more than fifteen years of experience as a family nurse practitioner (FNP) and six years as a family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. She is passionate about helping the undeserved and uninsured in her community.

Prior to becoming an FNP, she worked in the intensive care unit, emergency room, home health care, hospice, oncology and rural health as a registered nurse.

Currently she teaches Advanced Pharmacology, Advanced Pathophysiology, Advanced Health Assessment, Clinical Practicum, Health Policy, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and Preceptorship at the graduate level.

Cox's teaching philosophy is to allow the students to share in the learning process in her courses. Additionally, she believes it is important to help students decrease stress over learning because most learning happens when the student is relaxed and can absorb the material in the course. Online courses are preferred because they allow distance learners to obtain educational degrees that would not be possible otherwise. Finding creative ways to engage students in online courses with others in the course is one of her favorite things to do.

Cox has a special interest in helping to prevent the deaths of individuals related to the opiate crisis. She is currently helping to develop a medication assisted therapy program and is writing a scholarly article on the development of this project.

On her time off she enjoys hiking, interior decorating, gardening/landscaping and spending time with her grandson.
