February 4, 2022

Dear Mavericks,

Over winter break when Omicron was peaking, the broader community was experiencing high levels of COVID-19 transmission. A mask requirement for all indoor instructional spaces was implemented for the first two weeks of classes so we could collect and reevaluate the data. Our team has analyzed the metrics important to our plan, and as President Marshall mentioned in his email to campus yesterday, classrooms remain a very low-transmission risk on campus, reinfections remain rare, as do serious COVID-19 cases. Starting Saturday, February 5, we will transition back to mindful masking on campus.

Leading with education, the COVID-19 response team has updated mask information, isolation and quarantine guidelines.  As we move through the semester, we will continue to use a data-driven approach and ask that the CMU community utilize the various tools and strategies we have on campus to promote individual and Mavily health. Similar to last fall, CMU is working with community and state health experts to bring vaccine and booster clinics to campus.

Vaccine/Booster Clinics

  • February 16 from 11am-1pm in the University Center
  • March 2 and 3 from 9am-5pm on The Plaza
  • March 16 at 11am-1pm in the University Center

COVID-19 Testing

Please remember to schedule an appointment for testing. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please log your symptoms in Scout, and use the rapid testing site north of campus. For all other testing use the drive-thru PCR testing site. Turnaround times for test results are quick and the drive-thru site has appointments Monday-Friday 8am-4 pm. If you utilize a rapid antigen test at home or test at an off-campus location, please utilize the eform to update the Health Team. If you will need to miss class due to COVID-19 or another medical-related illness, please complete the Absence Notification Form.

We look forward to continuing to learn together in our holistic approach to our COVID-19 response. We ask that all Mavericks stay engaged in the critical thinking and evaluation of daily choices that are important for a healthy campus. In the spirit of health promotion, our team invites everyone to participate in a HealthyU event and check out our weekly health tips on the data dashboard. For the month of February, get moving Mavericks and try joining us for a spin class at the Hamilton Recreation Center on Tuesdays at 12pm. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

The COVID-19 Response Team
