Greetings Mavericks,

Residence Life is preparing rooms for you! Our residence life, custodial, and facilities staff are working hard to ensure each and every room is in “move-in ready” shape by August 2.  We are excited to have students back on campus!

The CMU Safe Together, Strong Together Task Force Team continues to work closely with Mesa County Health Department officials and medical professions to help determine our protocols for the actual move-in process.  Our goals are to promote the health and safety of everyone coming to campus, and to provide a positive experience for our residents.  Knowing that Mesa County is in Phase 2 of the Reopening Plan, we are still planning a limited and spread out move-in process.

General guidelines for EVERYONE’s safety:

Plan your travel to Grand Junction:

  • Feel free to set travel plans to Grand Junction now.
  • Move-in reservation link will open at 9am on July 15. Plenty of time slots will be available. We will work hard to accommodate your timely requests.
Testing for COVID19:
  • All students must be tested for COVID19 with following guidelines:
    • Date of test (within 5-7 days of move-in)
    • Type of test:  PCR-antigen test
    • Results of test: COVID19 or SARS-CoV-2 RNA Absent, not found, or negative
  • We are still working on having regional test sites available so students can test and stay home while waiting for results.
  • If testing at home or at a regional site (yet to be determined), you will need to test 5-7 days prior to move-in.
  • If testing in Grand Junction, you will need to test 3 days prior to move in and isolate while awaiting the results.  More information to come.

  • All CMU students will be required to complete a 90-minute online COVID19 safety course prior to coming to campus. (Faculty and staff have completed a similar course.)   This course should be available on July 20.  Students should continue to check emails.
  • In-coming freshmen are required to complete a 45-minute Consent and Respect course prior to move-in.  Students will be receiving emails on how to login and complete this course.

  • Move-in will be spread out, beginning August 2-August 16. July 14 is the last day any room changes will be made (including waitlists).
  • You will need to RESERVE your move-in date/time.  The reservation link will be available and sent to your CMU email on July 15.
  • Move-in times will be limited to 2 hours.  Be sure to be on time as per your reservation.  Guests will be asked to leave the residence hall at the end of the two-hour period.
  • Plan on only bringing 2 guests to campus to help you move in.  More will not be allowed into the residence hall.  If you have others with you, they are welcome to visit campus, but not help inside your room or residence hall.
  • Student COVID19 test results affirming COVID19 free, must be submitted prior to moving in.  All students and visitors must submit the symptom checker and attest they are symptom free prior to entering any building on campus.

We are hoping to have more details to you with our next update in early July.

    Stay safe and stay healthy!

    Best wishes,

    Jody Diers

    Director of Residence Life
