E-mail to students from Vice President John Marshall:

Dear Mavericks:

As you saw in President Foster’s email earlier today, CMU’s number one priority at this time is ensuring students, faculty and staff can move into the Thanksgiving holiday safely without furthering the spread of COVID-19 as our county and state see quickly rising cases.

  • Students, immediately schedule a COVID-19 test. Because many students who tested positive have mild symptoms, all students can and should acquire a negative test before returning home — whether home is locally or out of the region. Please schedule your test through enter your 700# in the access code field to sign up for a test at the testing site on campus, in the Bunting Hall parking lot. Operations have been expanded to accommodate the need to test this high volume over the coming week.

  • Watch for communications from your faculty members regarding classes next week. Some classes involving hands-on instructional activity will continue to meet, while most courses will move online.

  • If you live on campus, prepare your room and complete your required check out prior to leaving campus. Pack any valuables that you will take home with you. Other items may be left as your room will be secured over the break. You are required to check out from your residence hall with an RA prior to leaving campus. Failure to properly check out of your residence hall will result in a $150 improper checkout fine. Please follow the instructions on the Thanksgiving Break and Travel Planning FAQ pageKeep in mind that if you test positive, isolating on campus may be the best choice and we are equipped to care for you over the coming weeks and during the break as needed.
  • On-campus offices, services, library, computer labs, food services, etc. remain open and operational. If you are returning home outside of the area and do not have access to good technology, you may work with the IT Help Desk to see if a laptop is available for check out.
  • CMU has extended the withdraw “W” no refund date for fall 2020 to Friday, December 4.  See the  important Dates  page.  Students can find the Extended Course Withdraw on the  Registrar forms  page.

  • Student employees should consult their supervisors regarding their situation. They may continue to work if they desire following existing campus safety protocols.

  • Little Mavericks Learning Center remains open and fully operational for campus and community child care needs.

  • CMU will be on-campus and in-person for Spring 2021. While you wait for your test results, IRIS is available to assist with plans for next semester and questions you have regarding classes, billing, financial aid. Staff are available for online appointments, but also may be reached by email, phone, etc. In some cases, a quick email or phone consultation may be faster for you.

Be well and stay safe.
