September 3, 2021

As we end the second week of the Fall 2021 semester, we wanted to send a few reminders about our COVID-19 response that are important for all members of our community:

Remember if you start exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms, please log them into Scout. Once you log your symptoms, a CMU COVID-19 response team member will reach out with further instructions. You can access Scout through MAVzone.

Student Services Absence Notification Form

If a student must miss class for an emergency, due to illness or a COVID-19 related isolation or quarantine, the student needs to submit a Student Services Absence Notification Form, which will send an email notification to instructors from the Student Services Office. We are seeing an uptick in other upper respiratory infections and student illnesses other than COVID-19. To help clarify the reason for a student absence, if a student will be missing class for a COVID-19 related illness to either isolate or quarantine, this absence will be designated as COVID-19 related absence. We will also send a medical-related absence notification if students have tested and been evaluated by a medical professional and will be out due to other health or medical reasons.

Close Contact

If you have been identified as a recent close contact to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 a member of our contact tracing team will contact you with next steps. If you have not been contacted by a member of the safety team but feel you may have been exposed, please follow the exposure guidelines.

CMU recommends the COVID-19 vaccine for those in our campus community. By following the data we know that both acquired immunity from vaccination and natural immunity past infection provide a layer of protection against more severe outcomes from COVID-19. We still encourage our campus community to get vaccinated even if you've already had COVID-19 to add yet another layer of protection. If you are a student, it's not too late to upload proof of vaccination to qualify for ten $500 awards and random drawings for other prizes. The deadline is September 10. For those who have yet to be vaccinated, CMU is offering Vaccine Clinics on campus. You can sign up online or walk up the day of.

Please reach out to the safety team with any additional questions and have a great weekend, Mavs!
