Spring 2021
January move in will be similar to August move-in – staggered, reserved time required and your MAVcard must be reencoded to enter your residence hall.
Students must provide NEGATIVE COVID test results (or have been positive for COVID between October 25, 2020 and January 8, 2020) prior to moving in. More information on testing will be posted on the CMU COVID-19 website in the near future.
Students who have had a positive COVID test 90 days prior to January and returning to CMU:
If you have had a positive COVID test in the previous 90 days prior to your January move-in date, you are not required to be tested again to move in. Most recent reports from medical experts state that it is unlikely that a person who tested positive for COVID would still be contagious or be likely to contract COVID during the period of 10-90 days after positive test date. If this applies to you, you will be required to provide the test results/date for the purpose of move-in.
Residents must sign up for a move-in time. Check your CMU email in December for details.
Updated 12.16.20
Students moving into the residence halls will be emailed a link to their CMU email address in December to reserve their move in date and time.

If you are NEW to CMU, you are allowed two guests to help you move in. Returning students should not need assistance as they did not move out their belongings after the fall semester. As a returning student, if you believe you need to have guests help, please email reslife@coloradomesa.edu for approval.

Face masks will be required, new students must complete the COVID-19 course prior to move in, students must test negative for COVID-19 (or have been positive for COVID in the previous 90 days to January move-in) and only new students may bring two guests to help them move in.
ONLY residents of the hall will be allowed into the hall. No visitors will be allowed. This policy continues from the Fall semester.

Yes, unless the student tested positive* at any time between October 25, 2020 and January move-in, all students moving into a residence hall must have a test within 2-4 days of moving in.
*Students who have had a positive COVID test between October 25, 2020, and January return to CMU:
- If you have had a positive COVID test between October 25, 2020 and the January move-in date, you are not required to be tested again to move in. Most recent reports from medical experts state that it is unlikely that a person who tested positive for COVID would still be contagious or be likely to contract COVID during the period of 10-90 days after positive test date. If this applies to you, you will be required to provide the test results/date for the purpose of move-in.
The type of test students must complete is a PCR test and results of the test must be COVID19 or SARS-CoV-2 RNA, “not found” or “negative”. RT-LAMP assay rapid saliva tests are sufficient to move-in, provided students also received a PCR test at the same time.
Regional test sites are available along the Front Range of Colorado. See the testing site for more information. Testing is available in Grand Junction at CMU's testing site starting January 4. You need to test 2-4 days prior to move-in and isolate while awaiting the results.
Arriving from out-of-state/country:
Students arriving to CMU from out-of-state or country will need to plan on testing as soon as possible upon arriving in Grand Junction (or have access to testing at a regional test site up to 7 days prior to arrival at CMU.) Student should request the LAMP test for fast results. The student would need to monitor for symptoms and practice all safety protocols (masking, safe distancing, washing hands) for the next week. An additional COVID test (PCR) should be taken on the 5th day after arrival to Grand Junction. Again, self-monitoring for symptoms and all safety protocols should be strictly followed for the next 7 days.
Note: Meal Plans begin January 18, 2020
- If planning to move into residence halls before January 18, quarantine may happen within the residence hall, depending on return of roommates. Food will be the responsibility of the student as meal plans have not yet begun.
- If January 18 or later, student will be moved to a hotel for quarantine time at the university’s expense. A food box will be provided that contains breakfast options, sandwich meats/cheese, chili, soups, snacks and drinks. Any additional food and expenses are the student’s responsibility

The Safe Together, Strong Together team has concluded the safest path forward includes performing baseline viral testing for all members of the campus community. The outcome will be an important metric to inform decision making, and to slow spread and transmission of COVID-19 on campus.
