Career Services offers interest assessments to aid in major or career selection.
Strong Interest Inventory (SII)
This computerized inventory can assist you in making educational and occupational choices by relating your interests to a wide variety of career fields and to the interests of satisfied workers within those fields. The Strong can identify careers which most parallel your interests as well as careers which are contrary to your interests. This assessment can be completed in approximately 15-30 minutes and requires a follow-up appointment with Career Services. Fees may apply*—see below for more details.
Taking The Strong Interest Inventory (SII)

- Fill out your registration information
- Complete the assessment
- After you have taken the Strong Interest Inventory, you will need to contact Career Services at 970.248.1404, email us at [email protected], or schedule an appointment on Handshake to have your results interpreted and receive a copy of your assessment.
*Assessment Charges
- CMU Students: First assessment (SII or MBTI) is free as a part of CMU student fees. If you retake an assessment or take a different assessment, there is a fee of $25 to obtain your results.
- Community Members: $45 per assessment
- Alumni: $25 per assessment
- Assessment fees must be paid at the Office of Student Accounts in Lowell Heiny Hall (lower level) in advance of your assessment interpretation. You must present your payment receipt to Career Services at the time of your appointment

Find out how your interests relate to a career! This online tool provided by the Mesa County Workforce Center is entirely self-directed and is always FREE. Complete an interest survey to learn about your career interests. Research careers by key words or industry.
Using the Mesa County Workforce Center Career Coach Assessments
- Go to: https://mcwfc.us/
- Hover over Job Seekers and scroll down to select "Career Coach"
- Once on the Career Coach website, select "Take Career Assessment"
- You will be redirected to a page that gives you the option to take the 6 or 60 question career assessment
- Select the career assessment you would like to take
- Take career assessment and click the "Download My Results" button on the right side of the screen when finished

National Career Readiness by ACT®
The ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (ACT WorkKeys NCRC®) is an assessment-based credential issued at four levels; Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The NCRC measures and certifies the essential work skills needed for success in jobs across industries and occupations. You can take the NCRC assessments for FREE at the Mesa County Workforce Center and use the certificate to highlight your skills and competencies to employers.

Three WorkKeys tests provide the verification of skills: Applied Math, Workplace Documents and Graphic Literacy. These three tests, in combination, can qualify you for a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The certificate level is determined by your lowest score and the certificate level determines what percentage of ACT’s Job Profiles you have the required job skills to perform.
You will be able to highlight your skills with:
- Read and understand documents commonly found in the workplace
- Find information presented in common workplace graphics
- Set up and solve simple and complex work-related mathematical problems
- Determine the relevance of written information to work-related tasks
