A Sampling of Events Hosted by Grand Junction

Alpine Bank Junior College World Series (50+ years): Grand Junction is proud to serve as the host site for the Junior College (JUCO) Baseball World Series. For more than 50 years, JUCO has drawn amazing young baseball players full of talent, commitment and enthusiasm. Players, coaches and fans are swept up in thrilling moments of America’s favorite pastime.

Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference Road Championships (2012, 2013, 2014): For three years, the Grand Valley has been home to a top-notch bicycle race that draws serious competitors from around the region.

Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference Mountain Bike Championships (2012, 2013, 2014): This race features a cross country course, a downhill course and a short track race that take advantage of the area’s unique geography.

Special Olympics Colorado Summer Games (2013, 2014):  The Summer Games, a state championship event for five sports, is the largest Special Olympics sporting event of the year in the state. The games were held in state-of-the-art Grand Junction facilities.

US Bank Rim Rock Marathon (since 1995): Winding over the Colorado National Monument, this race boasts views of towering monoliths within a vast plateau and canyon panorama.

Ride the Rockies (2010, 2015): The Denver Post‘s Ride The Rockies is an annual bicycle tour that takes 2,000 cyclists, assisted by more than 100 volunteers, on a 6-7 day ride on paved roads through Colorado’s Rocky Mountains each June.

Grand Valley Off Road (2013, 2014): The race courses start and finish on Main Street in downtown Grand Junction, and tour participants over varied terrain while traversing the Tabeguache trail system to the distant reaches of the Magellan loop.

Colorado Master’s Swim Association Short Track State Championships (2014): This three-day championship will feature more than 200 athletes from across Colorado and surrounding states and is sanctioned by U.S. Masters Swimming. Participants range in age from 18 to 100+.

Fruita Fat Tire Festival (since 1995): This festival celebrates mountain biking with miles of pristine trails and participants from around the world. It also features live music and one of the top cycling expos in the state.

Tour of the Valley Cycling (since 1989): This tour travels through the Grand Valley, from the rolling vineyard hills and peach orchards of Palisade and the farm fields of Fruita, to the spectacular sculptured canyons and red rock spires of the Colorado National Monument.

Tour of the Moon Cycling: Made famous in the cycling movie “American Flyers”, this tour continues to be considered one of the premier recreational rides in the western United States.

Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Championships (2013, 2014): This championship series takes advantage of the incredible climate and state-of-the-art amenities available in Grand Junction.

Taco Bell Tennis Tournament: The largest annual tennis tournament on the Western Slope, with divisions for all ages and abilities.

Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regional Baseball Championships: This championship series is held on Suplizio Field, the recently renovated home of the JUCO World Series and the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks.

NCAA Regional Baseball Championships: Grand Junction has always been a baseball town, making it the perfect location for this tournament.

CHSAA 5A Boys State Swimming & Diving Championships: Colorado Mesa University’s Olympic-sized indoor pool was just the place for this event.
