The Testing Center is committed to providing testing services to Colorado Mesa University students, alumni and members of the Western Colorado community. The Testing Center proctors for a large variety of national testing programs including ACT, GED, PRAXIS, and LSAT. In addition, the Center is a Prometric Testing Center and is committed to serving all Prometric clients. For specific test opportunities, please contact the Testing Center.

Prohibited Items In Testing Center

The items listed below are not allowed in the Testing Center which are explained in the Testing Center Procedures and Regulations. If any of these items are brought to the center, they will need to be locked in your locker until you have finished testing.

- Cell Phones - Food or drink - Hats - Notes (unless approved by instructor) - Sunglasses - Mechanical pencils or pens - Textbooks (unless approved by instructor) - Watches

Testing Opportunities

 

ACCUPLACER test is a computer-adaptive testing program utilized by colleges and universities for correct course placement in English, Mathematics, and Reading. Students whose ACT/SAT scores are below a specific number in these areas may need to test. Please contact the Testing Center for questions about which tests may be needed. ACCUPLACER tests are un-timed and self-paced. Students should take their ACCUPLACER tests before their scheduled Student Orientation or before meeting with an advisor.

Payment and Scheduling

$17 per subject is due at the time of scheduling. The student may bill their student account or pay over the phone with a debit or credit card. Payments via any other form (cash, cashier's check, check, etc.) must be taken to the Student Accounts Office in lobby of Lowell Heiny Hall and the receipt brought to the testing center to schedule. All payments are prepaid and non-refundable. There is a $20 rescheduling fee, which is valid for 6 months from the original test date.

 

If you live in the Grand Junction area, we encourage you to utilize the walk-in option and to plan ahead so that you are assured a testing seat.

 

Offsite Scheduling Options

If you have applied to CMU, have a CMU Student ID number (700#), and live outside the local area you may choose from one of the following options:

First Option – Test at a Colorado Community College

You will need to request your specific test(s), pay any fees directly to their testing center, and request that your scores be forwarded to CMU. You will not incur any charges with CMU, using this option. Please visit https://www.cccs.edu/colleges/ for a list of Colorado Community Colleges.

Second Option – Proctored Via B-Virtual Webcam Proctor

This option will allow you to take your exams in your own home, via webcam. Proctors are available 24 hours a day, seven days each week.

First, complete the Offsite ACCUPLACER Registration form below. Then you will receive a confirmation email that includes instructions for arranging the test as well as a voucher from ACCUPLACER.

 

You are responsible for the B-Virtual fee. This is in addition to the fees charged by CMU.

Third Option - Proctored by Someone at Your Educational Institution or a Testing Center

Your proctor must be a school or college counselor, teacher, librarian, testing center employee or someone in a supervisory position associated with an educational institution.

First, arrange an appointment with the proctor. Then, complete the Offsite ACCUPLACER Registration form below. Administration instructions will be sent to your proctor and you will receive a confirmation email and a voucher from ACCUPLACER. You are responsible for any payment required by your proctor. This is in addition to the fees charged by CMU.

Testing Center Procedures and Regulations

The Colorado Mesa University Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology (RT), Medical Technology (MLT), Surgical Technology (ST) programs require the ATI TEAS exam as part of the admissions process. The ATI TEAS was developed to measure basic essential skills in the academic content area domains of Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage. There is a total of 150 scored questions and 20 unscored pretest questions.

Test sections and timing:

Reading Comprehension: 48 questions- 58 minutes

Science: 54 questions- 66 minutes

Mathematics: 34 questions- 51 minutes

English and Language Usage: 34 questions- 34 minutes

Total testing time allowed is 209 minutes.

Pre registration: Students must create an account with ATI prior to contacting the Testing Center to schedule an appointment. Please visit www.atitesting.com to create your account. You will need your ATI log in and password to access the test.

Testing Center Procedures and Regulations

The Chemistry Placement exam should be taken by CMU students majoring in the sciences. The placement exam determines whether the student should take CHEM 121 or CHEM 131. Students will need to know their MAVzone username and password to access the test. Total test time allowed is 60 minutes.  Students are allowed to take the Chemistry Placement exam once per semester.

CMU students majoring in the following subjects and have taken one year of High School Algebra and one year of High School Chemistry should take the exam:

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) allows students to use the knowledge they already have to gain credit for classes. The Testing Center offers all CLEP examinations, however only certain exams are accepted for CMU credit. The CLEP exam tests for a comprehensive understanding of a college level class much like a comprehensive final. Students are strongly encouraged to review the CLEP study guide or the textbook before testing. Examinees can purchase study guides directly from CLEP. Students may not retest for three months. CMU students testing for a foreign language (French, German, or Spanish) are required to take an additional Oral Exam once they have successfully completed the written portion. Please contact the Testing Center with any questions about CLEP testing.

A student may not earn CLEP credit in a class in which they have previously been enrolled including a class from which the student withdrew, so that the transcript shows a W, WP, or WF.

Payment and Scheduling

Pre-Registration: To pre-register, go to https://clepportal.collegeboard.org/myaccount and create an account. After you create an account, you will need to go in and select the exam you want to take and pay CLEP the $85 fee. Once you have paid the fee, CLEP will email you a registration ticket. You MUST bring the registration ticket with you on your testing date.

After pre-registering with CLEP, a $25 CMU scheduling fee is due at time of scheduling. The student may bill their student account or pay over the phone with a debit or credit card. Payments via any other form (cash, cashier's check, check, etc) must be taken to the Student Accounts Office in lobby of Lowell Heiny Hall and the receipt brought to the testing center to schedule. All payments are prepaid and non-refundable. There is a $20 rescheduling fee, which is valid for 6 months from the original test date. An additional $25.00 Oral exam or essay fee may be needed. Check with your institution for these requirements.

CLEP is offered Wednesdays at 9:30 am or 2:30 pm at the Testing Center by appointment only.

Students enrolled in CMU Online classes can take proctored exams through the Testing Center. Students in traditional classes cannot take make-up tests at the Testing Center.

Payment and Scheduling

We encourage you to utilize the walk-in option and to plan ahead so that you are assured a testing seat.

If a student needs to reschedule an appointment, there is a $20 rescheduling fee. 

Some faculty permit 2nd and 3rd attempts on their exams. If a student chooses to retest on any of their exams, a $17 testing fee is required in order to secure a new testing date and time.

Students taking classes with other institutions can take proctored exams through the Testing Center. Exams or exam instructions must be received before scheduling. If the institution requires paperwork to be filled out before releasing the test or for additional information, please contact the Testing Center.

Payment and Scheduling

The student may pay over the phone with a debit or credit card at the time of scheduling. Payments via any other form (cash, cashier's check, check, etc) must be taken to the Student Accounts Office in lobby of Lowell Heiny Hall and the receipt brought to the testing center to schedule. Fees are $40 minimum charge for the first two-hours of testing and $15 for each additional hour. The charge is based on the time limit set by the institution for each exam, even if the examinee takes less than the scheduled time. All payments are pre-paid and non-refundable. There is a $20 rescheduling charge for all appointment changes, which is valid for 6 months from the original test date.

Examinees are responsible for all shipping fees.

DANTES examinations allow students to earn credits for knowledge they already have. Students from other institutions should contact their institution for more information. Please contact the Testing Center with any questions or to schedule a DANTES exam. CMU students should consult the College Catalog for specific policies. Exams are 2 hours long.

A student may not earn DANTES credit in a class in which they have previously been enrolled including a class from which the student withdrew, so that the transcript shows a W, WP, or WF.

$25 CMU scheduling fee is due at the time of scheduling. The student may bill their student account or pay over the phone with a debit or credit card. Payments via any other form (cash, cashier's check, check, etc) must be taken to the Student Accounts Office in lobby of Lowell Heiny Hall and the receipt brought to the testing center to schedule. All payments are prepaid and non-refundable. There is a $20 rescheduling fee, which is valid for 6 months from the original test date. An additional $80 per test is paid directly to DANTES the day of the test. The DANTES examination charge can only be paid with a credit/debit card.

Examinees wishing to take the Public Speaking test must register at least one month in advance as the test is paper-based.

Testing Center Procedures and Regulations

Engineering students are the only students who need to take the Engineering Advanced Math Placement test.

  • If you have scored at or above an ACT Math-19, SAT Math (2015 or before)-460, SAT Math (2016 or after)-500, GED Mathematics-165, HiSET Math-15 or TASC Math-560, you may need to complete the Advanced Math Placement assessment prior to attending Student Orientation or registering for a math course.

Offsite Engineering Advanced Math Placement Form

The Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exam is a tool to determine if the students have the academic skills necessary to perform effectively in a School of Nursing, and is required for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and the Practical Nurse (PN) programs. The test is a 91 question, multiple choice test that evaluates the basic reading, math, writing, and science skills of students seeking entry into a nursing program.  This exam can be taken once per application period.

Test sections and timing:
Tutorial: 9 questions- untimed
Reading: 22 questions- 45 minutes
Math: 28 questions- 45 minutes
Writing: 21 questions- 45 minutes
Science: 20 questions- 30 minutes


Total testing time allowed is 165 minutes.

Testing Center Procedures and Regulations

The KINE 100 Test Out exam covers information from the KINE 100 lecture course. The examination consists of 200 multiple choice and true/false questions, with a time limit of 2 hours. You must NOT be registered for or have taken the CMU KINE 100 lecture course (or equivalent) prior to taking the KINE 100 Test Out examination. A passing score of 80% (160 correct responses) is required in order to have the KINE 100 lecture course requirement waived. Upon passing, credit hours are not awarded and no grades are awarded, passing the exam only waives the KINE 100 class requirement. The KINE 100 Test Out exam can be taken only once. If the examinee does not meet the score requirement he/she must take the KINE 100 lecture course. This examination may not be used as a grade improvement for KINE lecture course. A copy of scores will be sent to the Office of the Registrar and KINE Department Head approximately two business days after the test date. The textbook for the course may be purchased from the CMU Bookstore.

Testing Center Procedures and Regulations

The MAT is a high-level analytic ability test that requires the solution of problems stated as analogies. The exam consists of 120 partial analogies, which are intended to measure the examinee's ability to recognize the relationships between ideas, fluency in the English language and knowledge of social sciences. The exam is computer-based and unofficial score results are available at the end of the exam. Official score reports are mailed approximately two weeks after testing. Total testing time allowed is 60 minutes.

Payment and Scheduling

$150 is due at the time of scheduling. The student may pay and schedule over the phone or in person with a credit or debit card. Payments via any other form (cash, cashier's check, check, etc) must be taken to the Student Accounts Office in lobby of Lowell Heiny Hall. Payment alone does not guarantee a seat. You are responsible for delivery of this receipt to the Testing Center in order to schedule a testing appointment.
