Master's Degree or Additional Colorado Endorsement

Our post-graduate Master of Arts in Education offers a core set of courses with a choice of specializing in a master's degree in Educational Leadership (EDLD), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Exceptional Learner/Special Education , and Teacher Leader .  Colorado endorsement is available for EDLD/Principal Licensure, ESOL, and Exceptional Learner. Students enrolled in the Master 's degree program are required to read and be familiar with the Master's Degree Handbook.

Admission Requirements (ESOL, EDLD, Teacher Leader, Exceptional Learner/Special Education)

Colorado Mesa University encourages applications from all individuals meeting the following criteria, upon which competitive selection will be made by the committee:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Evidence of strong academic background and ability to pursue advanced study
  • Evidence of dedication and promise to the field of education as a professional leader
  • Excellent English reading, writing, and critical thinking skills
  • Competence in the use of education technology
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • GRE (Graduate Record Exam) scores (not required of those with Master's degrees who are applying for Endorsement only.
    • Educational Leadership (EDLD), Teacher Leader, Exceptional Learner/Special Education- GRE Scores needed by April 24 for full Admittance (may be provisionally admitted)
    • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) - submit scores within the first semester of enrollment

  • Completed Application for Graduate Studies
  • $50 Application fee
  • Results of Graduate Record Exam (GRE) - contact CMU Testing & Assessment Center for more information 970.248-1260 - Colorado Mesa University's institutional code is R4484- not required of those with Master's degrees who are applying for Endorsement only
  • Official transcripts of undergraduate degree and graduate (if applicable) institutions attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to Colorado Mesa University.
  • Two (2) sealed letters of professional recommendation (Form B) sent directly from the issuing party.  One letter needs to be from the building supervisor.
  • Working with youth documentation (Form C).
  • Statement of purpose commenting on your personal educational philosophy and interest in the program
  • (Form D)

Educational Leadership (EDLD)

  • Completed Application for Graduate Studies
  • $50 Application fee

  • Official transcripts of undergraduate degree and graduate (if applicable) institutions attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to Colorado Mesa University.
  • Three (3) sealed letters of professional recommendation (Form B) sent directly from the issuing party.  Two letters from a colleague and one letter from a building administrator/supervisor. 
  • Commitment letter signed by the building administrator who will supervise your internship (Form C).
  • Statement of purpose commenting on your personal educational philosophy and interest in the program

Teacher Leader

  • Photocopy of your Colorado Professional Teaching License
  • Commitment letter signed by the building administrator who will supervise your internship (Form C).
  • Statement of purpose commenting on your personal educational philosophy and interest in the program

(Form D)

  • Documentation of teacher experience (Form E)
  • Immunization form for those younger than 54
