Licensure Programs

The Center for Teacher Education offers licensure programs in Elementary, Secondary, K-12 Education, and a Master of Arts in Education. Post-Baccalaureate licensure options are also available.


Baccalaureate Program

Colorado Mesa University offers undergraduate degree programs that lead to teacher licensure in elementary, secondary, and K-12 education. If students do not have a bachelor’s degree, and are seeking a teaching license, the following options are available:

Elementary K-6

Secondary 7-12

K-12

Master of Arts in Education

Colorado Mesa University began the delivery of the Master of Arts in Education degree programs in the Summer of 2006.  There are four programs available for application:

  1. Educational Leadership - Master of Arts and/or Endorsement
  2. English For Speakers of Other Languages - Master of Arts and/or Endorsement
  3. Teacher Leader
  4. Exceptional Learner/Special Education


The Master of Arts degree consists of 11 hours of CORE credits.  The number of content subject hours varies by degree.

Post-Baccalaureate (PBL)

If students have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, they may choose the Campus-based or Intensive Post-Baccalaureate Program option in elementary and secondary The time commitment for the Intensive program is one year (May-May). Post-Baccalaureate candidates should meet with the PBL Coordinator in the Center for Teacher Education to determine if leveling courses are needed.
