Graduate Application

Master's Degrees and Graduate Certificates

Our post-graduate Master of Arts in Education offers a core set of courses with a choice of specializing in a master's degree or a Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership/Principal Licensure (EDLD), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Exceptional Learner/Special Education (EDSE), and Teacher Leader (EDTL). Colorado endorsement is available for EDLD/Principal Licensure, ESOL, and Exceptional Learner (EDSE). Students enrolled in the Master 's degree program are required to read and be familiar with the Graduate Handbook.

Students who do not already have a Masters of Arts degree may pursue a Graduate Certificate in Teacher Leader or English for Speakers of Other Languages.

Students must already have a Master of Arts degree to pursue a Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership or Exceptional Learner/Special Education.

Initial Teacher Licensure (ITL) Graduate Program

Students who have earned a bachelor's degree and wish to pursue teaching may choose the intensive Initial Teacher Licensure Graduate Certificate Program for either elementary or secondary licensure. ITL graduates have the option to obtain their Master's of Arts in Education by completing the four additional graduate courses required for the MA. Admission Requirements (ESOL, EDLD, EDSE & EDTL)

Colorado Mesa University encourages applications from all individuals meeting the following criteria, upon which competitive selection will be made by the committee:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Current Colorado Teaching License
  • Evidence of strong academic background and ability to pursue advanced study
  • Evidence of dedication and promise to the field of education as a professional leader
  • Excellent English reading, writing, and critical thinking skills
  • Competence in the use of education technology
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • Must attend Graduate Student Orientation at CMU

Master's Degree & Graduate Certificate Application Process for:

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Exceptional Learner/Special Education (EDSE)

Teacher Leader (EDTL) - (Master's Degree only)

  • Checklist

  • Completed Application for Graduate Studies
  • $50 Application fee (waived for CMU alum)
  • Official transcripts of undergraduate degree and graduate (if applicable) institutions attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to Colorado Mesa University.
  • Three (3) sealed letters of professional recommendation sent directly from the issuing party. One letter needs to be from a supervisor (Form B-Supervisor), and two letters can be from colleagues (Form B-Colleague).
  • Documentation of Experience (Form C)
  • Photocopy of your Colorado Teaching License
  • Statement of purpose for graduate study (Form D)
  • Immunization form for those younger than 54

Educational Leadership/Principal Licensure (EDLD)

  • Checklist

  • Completed Application for Graduate Studies
  • $50 Application fee(waived for CMU alum)
  • Photocopy of your Colorado Teaching License
  • Official transcripts of undergraduate degree and graduate (if applicable) institutions attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to Colorado Mesa University.
  • Three (3) sealed letters of professional recommendation sent directly from the issuing party. One letter needs to be from a supervisor (Form B-Supervisor), and two letters can be from colleagues (Form B-Colleague).
  • Documentation of teacher & leadership experience (Form C)
  • Statement of purpose commenting on your personal educational philosophy & interest in the program

Teacher Leader (EDTL) - (Graduate Certificate only)

  • Checklist

  • Completed Application for Graduate Studies
  • $50 Application fee (waived for CMU alum)
  • Documentation of Experience (Form C)
  • Official transcripts of undergraduate degree and graduate (if applicable) institutions attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to Colorado Mesa University.
  • Immunization form for those younger than 54

Accepting Applications

  • March 1st - Preferred Application Deadline for ITL & all Master Degrees (Preferred Summer Start)
  • June 1st - Preferred Application Deadline for a fall start (Late start)
  • Nov. 1st - Preferred Application Deadline for a spring start (Early Start)
