Overview

Forensic Science is science applied to the law. Almost any academic discipline has a forensic application. CMU currently has several forensic minors that apply to specific disciplines. All minor rely on the same set of core forensic courses; this encourages interaction among students from different disciplines who wish to be part of the forensic sciences. In addition, we have an active student club and we also host a high-school summer camp, CSI@CMU.

As well as standard classrooms, CMU has the Forensic Investigation Research Station, one of only six facilities in the country that use human remains to study decomposition. The Forensic Investigation Program also uses CMU’s Crime Scene House, which is shared with criminal investigation courses and law enforcement training.

For more information on the fields within forensic science, and the academic and career paths to enter those fields, see the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
