Future residents, please logon to MAVzone to apply online* for Fall or Spring housing. Go to the "Campus Life" tab, click the "Logon to MyHousing" button and then select "ApplyOnline".

Current residents, please navigate to the "Current Residents" link on the left and click "Online Room Selection" for details on room selection for next fall. You do not need to submit a new application..

Application Process

  • Students are encouraged to apply early.
  • The earliest applications are submitted 12-18 months prior to the student's start term.
  • Applications are given priority based on the date the completed application is received.
  • A completed Residence Life application includes the application, Residence Life and Dining Contract and security deposit.

After Applying

  • Application confirmations are sent via email to the student's CMU email account and regular mail within two weeks of when the application is received.
  • Students are advised to logon to MyHousing via MAVzone to review and update their personal and living preferences.

Assignment Process and Online Room Selection

Current residents have first choice and select rooms online in March and April for the following fall term.

  • Incoming students for fall are assigned using an automated matching process based on the hall preference and roommate matching criteria from the application. Hall preferences are not guaranteed, so include multiple choices on the application. Room assignments will be sent out in early May.
  • Incoming students for spring are assigned using an automated matching process.
    • Assignment notifications are sent mid-December for the following spring term

*To Apply Online

  • The student must have a Novell / MavZone username and password to access MAVzone and apply online.
    • The username and password is provided to the student in the admissions acceptance letter.
