Petition to Graduate Group of Graduates

All students must petition to graduate during the semester prior to the anticipated semester of graduation by completing an "Intent to Graduate" form at the Registrar's Office. Students must meet with their faculty advisor, complete a program sheet, a graduation-planning sheet and get signatures from their advisor and Department Head. It is important to begin this process early in the semester prior to the semester you plan to graduate. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that all paperwork is completed by the appropriate deadline as shown below.

  • The Registrar's Office will make the final determination in accepting your general education credits. Your advisor and department head will approve your major coursework.

  • You must meet ALL the requirements as listed in the catalog year for your program sheet.

  • If your petition is denied it will be your responsibility to reapply for graduation in a subsequent semester. Your intent to graduate does not automatically move to a later graduation date.

  • Signing the "Intent to Graduate" authorizes the release of your name and address to Herff-Jones and the commencement photographer. Herff-Jones provides the cap, gown, and announcements. These two companies are contracted with CMU to provide services for the ceremony. Both have agreed not to use your name and address for any other purpose. If you do not want this information released, please contact the Registrar's Office.
