Freedom Hooves, 900 Johnson Rd, Craig

Horse lovers will learn proper care and respect for our wonderful horse companions. Under professional supervision, students will learn what it takes to become professional horse trainers during classroom and ground work. The class is a collaboration with Freedom Hooves Therapeutic Riding of Northwest Colorado. Students will be required to sign additional waivers at the facility prior to class.

This camp is for anyone who is interested in aviation. Explore the intriguing aspects of aviation from how an aircraft is built to the aerodynamic aspects of what makes planes fly & how weather affects flight. This camp is also an opportunity to discover aviation careers & possible routes to get there. Students from Craig & Meeker will be transported to CNCC's Rangely flight school for the camp and must plan for extra time.

We will harvest plants that were started in the planting camp. Taking Planting is not required as Harvesting covers new topics. This camp is great for those considering careers in agriculture or have an interest in gardening.

Learn how drones work by programming & flying your own CoDrone (must be registered). All drone operation fundamentals are covered in this camp. Once their drones are built students will fly them using remote control (iPhone or Android phone required). Each camper will take a drone home.

This camp is designed to build onto the principals presented in the Livestock Judging I camp or for those that already have some livestock judging experience.  We will be building their knowledge of evaluating livestock animals through selection principles, giving oral reasons, and participating in a mock judging competition.  This camp is designed to prepare campers for a livestock judging competition.  This camp is ideal for 4H and FFA youth who want to practice their skills prior to the Colorado 4-H State Conference.  Instruction will be provided by experienced professionals who are currently practicing Livestock Judging at the national level. Attendance in Level 1 and Level 2 simultaneously is permitted and is designed for students to attend both in the same week.

This is a great hands-on opportunity to learn the basics of animal evaluation and the differences between the different livestock species.  We will learn to understand the importance of livestock conformation and composition, how to determine the difference between muscle and fat, structural correctness, femininity, masculinity, and breed character.  This camp is ideal for someone interested in livestock animals and wants to gain more knowledge about the different species.

Do you wonder how secret messages work?  Would you like to learn how to create secret messages?  Even better, would you like to learn how to “crack” a secret code? This is the camp for you. Learn how to encrypt and decrypt messages, even messages that are not your own. You will learn how to do this on paper and on the computer (the necessary computer skills will be taught in the camp.) See what it is like to work in the field of cyber security while having hand-on experiences.

Do you want to learn how to write scripts for movies or TV shows? During this weeklong camp, you will find out how a screenplay is structured and learn best practices for writing naturally. You will discover how to create strong characters and the importance of how they interact with their world. Best of all you will learn the importance of writing from personal belief. Students can take the scripts they have written to the video production camp and put their words into actions.

Everybody is shooting digital video these days. Let’s make the most of it with our video editing summer camp. We will spend a week in a digital moviemaking environment and learn the tricks of the trade. You’ll write a script, shoot it and finally put your production together in a video editor. Campers produce, direct, light, shoot and edit like the experts as they complete exercises and projects culminating in making their own short movie. Design and build a model of a medieval war machine, called a trebuchet, that will throw a projectile against a castle wall. Students will investigate math and physics concepts through the construction of various types of catapults and trebuchets. Each student will design, build and test their own trebuchet using everyday PVC pipe and fittings.

Want to recreate the Nightmare Before Christmas? How about The Lego Movie with real Legos? Stop motion animation allows your creations to come to life through the magic of film and photography. The M*A*S*H camp was created young adolescents interested in health careers and to build basic skills common to all health careers (CPR, first aid, infection control, etc.). There are four levels of M*A*S*H camp, which will allow students the opportunity to advance their learning during four summers. This exciting weeklong-day camp utilizes the nursing faculty, students and many community members from various health professions to provide fun hands-on learning. Students are exposed to campus life, eating in the college dining hall and utilizing the recreation center.

Build – Code – Experiment! During this camp, you will design, build and program robots using the LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox. Through this process, campers will gain advanced building skills, use a drag and drop software program, and use their robot to compete against other teams. Boost your LEGO building experience with the amazing LEGO BOOST Creative Toolbox. Build and customize Vernie, your own personal talking robot friend, and code its behavior then take it home to do even more. Registration deadline is June 17.

This camp will cover some of the career options available within the public safety career field. This camp includes classroom instruction with actual videos from different scenes, and hands-on experiences to prepare students for an actual emergency. The first day will cover law enforcement careers from the Police Academy director. The second day will focus on emergency medical technician skills with life-like scenarios where students will participate as patients and as first aid providers. They will also receive an introduction to ambulances and get to ride in one. During day three, students will experience more EMS skills combined with wildland fire career information.

No coding experience needed, we start from ground zero! In this course, you will learn how to build and program a simple robotic car that uses an Arduino for its “brain.” At the end of the five-day camp, you will compete with other camp participants to see whose car can finish an obstacle course in the shortest amount of time. You get to keep the kit of parts. No prior experience necessary.

Students will learn about a wide variety of animals during this exciting week. Camp will start out with animal behavior and handling. We will learn how animals communicate with each other and how they communicate with us. We will discuss what it means to be an “exotic” pet and how we can correctly care for these fascinating critters because they need specialized care. We will then have an opportunity to see many of the exotic animals we talked about while on a tour at the Children’s Nature Center. The week will close with a large animal/livestock discussion regarding how we get these giants to cooperate with us without hurting or frightening them using Dr. Temple Grandin’s work as a template. Finally, students will have an opportunity to demonstrate what we learned during the week for their parents.

This camp will cover setting, character development, plot structure, creating scenes from narrative and revision. Students will create and revise a short story/novel chapter to share with the class and parents on the last day. Students will design a cover and we will bind their work. Students will edit each other's work and the instructor will cover methods and sources for publishing original work.

This camp will cover setting, character development, plot structure, creating scenes from narrative and revision. Students will create and revise a short story/novel chapter to share with the class and parents on the last day. Students will design a cover and we will bind their work. Students will edit each other's work and the instructor will cover methods and sources for publishing original work.

This camp will allow the student to create a product from initial concept to fully manufactured reality. Students will gain knowledge in Computer Aided Design (CAD) to create a product and then utilize Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machinery to produce a working product.

This camp will cover fundamental skills and techniques required to design and complete a hand-drawn comic book. Western, Japanese and alternative styles will be explored as students learn the process of transforming a script into storyboards and a final inked product. Technical elements include framing and panel layout, shading techniques, inking with micron and dip pens, and digital lettering.

Want to develop your self confidence and comedy chops? This camp will bring out the comedian in you! We'll explore the wonderful world of comedic acting through exercises and games at each class. In a supportive and encouraging environment, you'll be able to stretch your comedy wings. You’ll learn short form improvisational technique, commedia dell'arte, classic comedy routines and styles, and perform your own short stand up routine or comedy monologue. Come to WCCC this summer and get a taste of what it is like to work on automobiles. You will learn how engines work and about the other eight main components of cars. You will work in fully equipped shops with tools and automobiles that can be taken apart and put back together. With the guidance of our experienced instructors, you will apply science and math skills in real work situations and learn about careers in the automobile industry.

Learn how drones work by programming and flying your own CoDrone (must be registered). All drone operation fundamentals are covered in this camp. Campers will program their drone to fly by remote control (iPhone or Android phone required) and autonomously fly a route programmed into it. Each camper will have a drone to take home to continue to enjoy. From CoDrone: "The CoDrone only weighs 40 grams, but packs a lot of technology in a small body. Inside each CoDrone is an accelerometer, barometer, gyrometer and a special optical flow sensor to stabilize flight. CoDrone supports Bluetooth 4.0 for fast transmission and range control of up to 65 feet." Registration deadline is June 30.
