Public Administration/Public Safety

Bachelor of Applied Science

Colorado Mesa University has developed an innovative bachelor degree program that enables law enforcement officers, and other first responders, to accelerate their careers by building upon their technical knowledge with general education and upper-division management classes.

CMU's Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Administration/Public Safety combines the technical skills of first responders with the management training necessary for success in areas related to public safety. A unique program, the BAS enables students who have already earned certificate in criminal justice, fire sciences, emergency medical technician or related fields from a credited institution of higher education to build on their technical specialties with general education courses and upper-division management classes.

Although most participants pursue this degree program on a part-time basis, depending on their previous education, students can complete the BAS degree within four additional full-time semesters.

BAS students will be technically and academically prepared for leadership positions in their chosen fields. This degree will assist students in their upward mobility in their area of employment as they move into supervisory positions.

What makes the CMU BAS program superior to others?

Testimonials

"I began looking for an online bachelors program during the fall of 2010. As a police officer that works shift work and has a full time family, the traditional in-class school setting would have been difficult. Colorado Mesa University has given me the ability to earn my degree through taking classes online. I am pursuing my Bachelors of Applied Science degree in Public Administration/Public Safety which goes along with my career in public service. This program has helped me to see a different aspect of public service from more than being a police officer. I can also understand what my superiors such as the chief of police and the city manager must do to perform their jobs and answer to the public at the same time."
- Officer Brian Larison, Glenwood Springs Police Department
