How do I login to my online class?
Desire2Learn (or D2L) is our online course system. Please follow the instructions below to access your online courses.

To log into your online class
Faculty and students at Colorado Mesa University who use Desire2Learn can access their online course through MAVzone.

Once you have a Colorado Mesa University Username (same as your email name), follow these steps to access your email and Desire2Learn (or "D2L") courses. Your online class will be available at 12:00 AM (MST) on the first day the class is scheduled to begin (see Start Date in the course catalog).

1. Go to the Colorado Mesa University home page.

2. Click the link for MAVzone.

3. Enter your Colorado Mesa University Username.


4. Enter your password. The first time you login to MAVzone, your initial password will be your birthday in mmddyy format. For example, someone born on January 1, 1980 will have an initial password of 010180.


5. If prompted, enter a new password. Your password must be a minimum of 8 characters. It must contain at least one alphabetic character and one number.


6. You should now be logged into MAVzone, the Colorado Mesa University web portal. Click on the D2L icon in the upper right portion of the window. The D2L "My Home" page should open in a new tab. If a blank window opens, just close it to return to the D2L tab.


7. Read the News items carefully in D2L because they contain important information. Your classes are listed under "My Courses" below the News section. Please note that all new online sudents must complete the Orientation with a score of 80 or better to continue in online courses.


Important: Colorado Mesa University provides an e-mail account to all students and correspondence will be directed to this account. Please be sure to check it regularly for important correspondence.

How often will I need to visit the campus?
The CMU Online classes are designed to allow a student to complete the course without being physically present "on-campus".

Is there an instructor?
Your instructor maintains all the online course components during the semester. Additionally, your instructor is available by e-mail to answer questions and discuss assignments.

How do I take exams?
In most classes you will be taking your tests online. A link will be made available by the instructor inside your WebCT course that will lead you to the test when you click on it. After taking the test, you will also submit the test online.

If you are in a hybrid class (which meets for some portion of the time in a classroom) you may be required to come to campus to take some or all of your exams during your regular class session. Information on examinations.

Will I be charged to take exams in proctored test locations?
Students enrolled in the CMU Online classes may take tests at NO COST at either the Colorado Mesa University Testing Center in Houston Hall, or at the Colorado Mesa University Montrose Campus. Students taking their test at any other site will have to pay the proctor fee that is charged there.


When you schedule your testing appointment at either Colorado Mesa University site you need to be sure to identify yourself as being enrolled in a CMU Online class.

How much time should I expect to spend in an online course?
Generally, expect to spend at least as much time as you would in an on-campus section of the course (about 9 hours per week for a 3 credit course or about 3 hours a week for each credit during a 15-week term for the average student).

What if I need accommodations as a student with a disability?

How do I check my e-mail?
Colorado Mesa University provides an e-mail account to all students and correspondence will be directed to this account. Your email appears on the Home tab of MAVzone. To access email, follow these instructions.

How do I drop, or withdraw from a CMU Online class?

Are there "other" student responsibilities I should know?
* Students are responsible for course materials from the assigned texts and readings, and other assignments as required.


* Students are responsible for establishing communication with the instructor. If there are problems, contact the instructor immediately by e-mail or phone.


* Student attendance/participation in the bulletin board and assignments are necessary to complete the course.


* Online courses typically require more effort and student responsibility than on-campus courses.
