Dominick Moreno Appointed to Colorado Mesa University Board of Trustees

In a significant move to strengthen higher education leadership in rural Colorado, Governor Jared Polis announced the appointment of former Colorado Senate Majority Leader Dominick Moreno to the Board of Trustees of Colorado Mesa University (CMU). The appointment, effective December 18, 2023, adds a seasoned legislator, policy maker and community leader with a passion for education to the University’s governing board.

Senator Moreno, known for his commitment to education and community service in the Colorado General Assembly, expressed gratitude about his new role.

"I am honored to be appointed to the Colorado Mesa University Board of Trustees," said Moreno. "Higher education is a powerful tool for transforming lives and communities, I know because it has in my own life and community. I look forward to collaborating with President Marshall and the Board to advance CMU, its mission and its goal of being a model of the world we want to create."

CMU President John Marshall welcomed Senator Moreno's appointment, citing his extensive experience and dedication to education and his understanding of rural Colorado’s needs.

"Senator Moreno's collaborative style as a legislator makes for a perfect appointment for Colorado Mesa University and for higher education in our state," said Marshall. "His deep understanding of the legislative process, the state budget, and his commitment to first generation students and affordability will be invaluable in guiding CMU towards living out the values of what it means to be a CMU Maverick."

Governor Polis, in his announcement, highlighted Senator Moreno's legislative achievements, and his potential to contribute to the university's support for Colorado’s higher education master plan and desire to lead the nation in work force development, support for rural communities and sustaining the value higher education offers for graduates.

Senator Moreno's appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Board, aligning with CMU's strategic goals of being radically accessible, developing meaningful partnerships and offering academic programs that are hyper relevant to the emerging needs of western Colorado.
