Career Services prepares students for the future

Attend the Road Map to Success conference on November 9

If you’re a senior wondering what path to take after graduation, you’re not alone. This year, more than ever, the uncertainty surrounding the future has many students pondering, “What’s next?” Global pandemic or not, Colorado Mesa University Career Services is committed to student success and that includes preparing students for life after college.

Assistant Coordinator of Career Services/Workforce Development Liaison Kayley Vogel is doing just that with the creation of the Road Map to Success conference. The conference is the first of its kind and will prepare students to enter the workforce.

“CMU seniors should attend this event to gain valuable and useful information about how to best prepare for interviews — anything from how to answer tough questions, how to negotiate salary, how to network with potential employers, what to do once you get a job, how to move up in a company and how to transition from college life to workforce life,” said Vogel.

Vogel, a Colorado Mesa University alumna, remembers being overwhelmed in her last year of school.

“CMU and my classes offered me valuable information for the world after graduation but I still felt overwhelmed with having to apply for jobs, prepare my resume and cover letter, get ready for interviews, and know which jobs I am qualified for all at once. From my personal experience I felt very passionate about offering useful information to CMU seniors about what to expect and how to prepare for what’s next,” said Vogel.

Bob Visotcky is this year’s Road Map to Success keynote speaker. Visotcky, a multimedia executive and small business and radio consultant, is the author of new book called, Now What? Real World Advice for Graduates.

There will be three break-out sessions and opportunities to network with other young professionals and local employers. And it’s all free! Take charge of your future and start with Career Services’ Road Map to Success conference. Space is limited to 150 seniors. Spots will fill on a first-come, first-serve basis.
