CMU’s Department of Theatre Arts continues its 2016-17 Main Stage season with the perennial musical favorite, My Fair Lady, Feb. 23-March 4 in the Moss Performing Arts Center Robinson Theatre. The musical will be directed by the new Head of Department of Theatre Arts Maurice LaMee and will star student Heidi Snider as Eliza.
When acclaimed professor and confirmed bachelor Henry Higgins makes a wager that in six months, he can pass off “gutter snipe” Eliza Doolittle as a duchess at an embassy ball, a deep and complicated relationship ensues between teacher and student. A musical about transformation, gender politics and class, this classic has been acclaimed for its heart and wit. Featuring favorite songs such as Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, I Could Have Danced All Night, On the Street Where You Live, and Get Me to the Church on Time, it is no wonder My Fair Lady is one of the most beloved musicals of all time.
Audiences may be interested in reading the play that the musical is based upon, Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. Tomlinson Library will host a book discussion in the first floor event space at 7pm on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
My Fair Lady is sponsored by Chevron.
Tickets for My Fair Lady are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors, faculty/staff and $7 for students and are available online at coloradomesa.edu/mosstickets or by calling the box office at 970.248.1604.
Faculty, staff and students with a current MAVcard may take advantage of rush priced tickets on Feb. 23 and Mar. 1 by coming to the box office the day of the show between 10am and 2pm for a $5 ticket.
