Maverick Stampede takes its show on the road

Colorado Mesa’s 155-member marching band, the Maverick Stampede, is headed east for a three-day tour that will include performances in Glenwood Springs, Arvada, Lakewood, Littleton and Parker.

“We are doing it for recruitment, not just for the band but for the music department and the university. More than 65 percent of the band members are non-music majors,” Hinkle said. “With that in mind, we are recruiting essentially any high school student who is in band and might want to come to CMU.”

Today, Oct. 7, the band will perform at Glenwood Springs High School in the morning, at Arvada West High School in the afternoon and do a half-time performance that evening at Green Mountain High School in Lakewood.

Thousands of spectators are expected at two of Colorado’s largest marching band competitions on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Maverick Stampede will perform at 4 pm at the Arapahoe Marching Festival in Littleton and at the Legend Marching Festival at 9 pm in the Echo Park Stadium in Parker.

Among others, the Maverick Stampede will perform “MaVaguena,” a customized rendition of the song “Malaguena,” with a Maverick twist.
