Downtown Grand Junction celebrates the Maverick spirit

October is Mav Month in downtown Grand Junction, which means plenty of maroon and gold throughout Main Street and great discounts for CMU students, parents and alumni to look forward to throughout the month.
“The goal is to create more of an awareness [of] CMU and create pride,” said Rebecca McKenna, Director of Alumni Relations. “We really want to create that college-town feel.”
The month is a spirited one for the CMU community — the first weekend of October is Parents’ Weekend, followed by homecoming week on Oct. 12-17. The homecoming parade will march down Grand Junction’s Main Street on Oct. 17.
“It’s just a great time for downtown to say, ‘Hey, we love being a university town, we love CMU, and welcome to downtown,’” said Allison Blevins, communications and marketing director for the Downtown Grand Junction Business Improvement District.
More than 10 downtown merchants will be participating in Mav Month, offering special deals and promotions. These merchants include The Palette, Pablo’s Pizza and Summit Canyon Mountaineering. Look for the Green Maverick Smoothie at Main Street Bagels or the Maverick Pizza at Pablo’s.
“All of the downtown merchants are really excited about it,” Blevins said. “They’re excited to welcome CMU downtown.”
