Entrepreneurship and Beyond still going strong
The sixth edition of Small Business Management: Entrepreneurship and Beyond, was released in December.
Written by Business Professor Tim Hatten, PhD, it is one of the top-selling small business textbooks in the world — and in some semesters, it has been the top-seller.
Music professor selected as featured composer
Music Professor and Director of Keyboard Studies Arthur Houle, DMA, has been selected as a featured composer by Abundant Silence Publishing.
Since August 2014, several of his works for piano students have been published — Bright-Eyed and Bushy-Tailed, Tommy Tumbleweeds and Buckaroo Blues. These, along with other compositions, are being compiled into a volume entitled Cowboy Jazz II. Abundant Silence Publishing is in the process of recording, publishing and promoting many of Houle’s other pieces for students and serious concert pianists.
Houle and his colleague Lisa Bush, an adjunct piano instructor, will present at the annual Music Teachers National Association conference in Las Vegas, Nev. later this spring. They will discuss Piano Marvel, a groundbreaking music technology program introduced in CMU’s Class Piano courses.
Houle and his colleagues began outreach efforts in the Salt Lake City, Utah area in 2014. In October, violinist Alejandro Gómez Guillén, director of orchestra/applied upper strings; cellist Kristin Yeon-Ji Yun, assistant professor, low strings; and Houle performed in concert as a trio and coached students in master classes at the Gifted Music School (GMS).
He founded and presented for the first GMS Creative Pianists Conference last August. In January 2015, the GMS designated Houle as a visiting professor of piano for his ongoing role as a bi-weekly presenter of workshops and master classes for teachers and students.
Last year, Houle was the only person to give two presentations at the 2014 College Music Society Rocky Mountain Chapter Annual Conference at Metropolitan State University.
