OurCMU extends giving opportunity to campus community

The end of the year is approaching and the Colorado Mesa University Foundation hopes to be foremost in people’s minds as the giving season gets underway. The foundation has launched OurCMU, an on-campus giving campaign that provides faculty and staff with the opportunity to support the university programs closest to their hearts.

“We want [employees] to support the programs they feel passionate about. We want people to give where they live because all of those gifts make such an important impact on our students and the quality of CMU,” said Liz Meyer, a CMU Foundation development officer.

Gifts may be designated to any area of the university an employee would like to support, including scholarships for a specific academic program or funds for large-scale projects like the Tomlinson Library renovation and expansion. “The library is certainly our number-one priority, and we are trying to raise $6 million. We hope faculty and staff will support that effort as well.”

Next month, the foundation will kick off an email campaign encouraging faculty and staff to give through OurCMU and detailing the ways to give, which include payroll deduction and donating in person. Donors will soon be able to give online as well.

Gifts of any size may be made. Meyer hopes that donating to OurCMU will become a tradition. “Annual gifts are a crucial part of our organization,” she said. “They’re sort of the backbone of how we support the university.”

“When the people who are closest to the university show their pride and their dedication through giving back, it’s huge. Alumni and community members see that employees are giving back and it demonstrates to them that we are also worthy of their support. We’re the family and we support our home,” she said.
