The Maverick Center muscles up

It was a summer of construction here at Colorado Mesa University, and one of the chief projects was a major renovation to the Maverick Center, home to Hamilton Recreation Center and Brownson Arena.

The project included substantial remodeling of the building’s basement, ensuring that every CMU sports team has nearly identical locker room spaces. The project also added new group exercise space and lockers for rec center users, as well as updated fitness machines and equipment.

Construction on the Maverick Pavilion is ongoing. Phase one of a two-phase expansion to the pavilion will be completed in spring 2015. The addition will add 16,000 square feet, including a new basketball court, a climbing wall visible from outside, a cycling center, a racquetball court and a golf simulator. By the end of the second phase the tent that currently houses the pavilion will be replaced by a building connected to Hamilton Rec Center via an elevated walkway.

In May, four clinical laboratories utilized by health sciences students were relocated from the basement of the Maverick Center to the Community Medical Plaza, north of Orchard Avenue.
