Hamilton Recreation Center steps up game

The Hamilton Recreation Center will promote wellness all semester long through multiple events planned throughout the fall, including educational displays and specials on services.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month, so look for the information and resources displayed in the rec center lobby. Hamilton’s regular business hours resumed Aug. 19. The rec center is open from 5am to 10pm Monday-Friday and 8am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 12.

Sept. 2-6, the rec center will provide “Walk to Wellness” information as part of a “STEPtember” initiative. Stop by the Suicide Prevention Week information table Sept. 9-13. Hamilton is celebrating Backpack Awareness Day on Sept. 18 with a discount of 50% off on any massage therapy service booked before Dec. 6. Don’t miss the healthful Tuesday Tasting from 3-6 pm on Sept. 24 in the fitness area hallway to celebrate Fruit and Veggie Month. September is also National Yoga Month, and on Sept. 27, there will be an outdoor yoga-thon from 11am-1pm on Bergman Field.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Information will be available in the lobby display case. It’s also Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and a table providing more information and resources on the issue will be available Oct. 1-10. The group exercise sessions will have a modified schedule during Fall Break, Oct. 14 and 15. Oct. 21-25 is Pink Week, which includes prize giveaways in the group exercise classes and culminates in a Party in Pink Zumba-thon in the Mav Pav from 9-12pm on Oct. 26. Halloween brings “Thriller”-themed group exercise cycling classes.

Nov. 14 is World Diabetes Day, and Hamilton will host a “Maintain, NOT Gain!” workshop at 6:30pm on how to make better dietary choices during the holiday season. Nov. 18-Dec. 24, the rec center will accept donations for Adopt-A-Family/Safe Toys for Tots. The group exercise schedule will also be modified over Thanksgiving Break, Nov. 27-29.
