CMU-Montrose scholarship named for ag leader

CMU-Montrose students have a new scholarship fund, named for Montrose resident Doyle Burns.

CMU-Montrose supporters Sharen and Jim Branscome donated $150,000 to create the Doyle E. Burns Scholarship Fund, named for Sharen’s father. Their donation was matched by CMU and added to other donations, resulting in a fund of more than $375,000.

“Sharen and I both have benefitted tremendously [from] higher education. We want to make those same opportunities available to the people in Montrose County,” said Jim Branscome.

CMU officials joined Burns, a long-time executive director of the National Potato Council, in celebrating his 93rd birthday with a potato-shaped cake. •
