Supported Software & Hardware

Information Technology & Communications provides standardized computer hardware and software for all classrooms, computer labs and faculty and staff offices. 

Desktop SoftwareStudent using computer

All desktop computers are configured with the following standard software installed:

  • As of March 2011 - new computers come with Windows 7.  Windows XP is installed on computers received prior to that.
  • Microsoft Office 2007 including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher
  • Novell Desktop Client and Groupwise Email
  • Browser Plug-ins including Acrobat Reader, Adobe Flash, Java Runtime
  • Mozilla Firefox

Novell Application Launcher (NAL) for Windows XP

Other specialized software is licensed according to job function and distributed through Zenworks Apps or the Novell Application Launcher (NAL).  Zenworks Apps shows as a selection on the Program Menu on Windows 7 computers.  The NAL window will automatically display on Windows XP computers when you log into the network. You will be presented with a list of software to which you have access.  Examples of software distributed through NAL include: SPSS, ArcGIS and Adobe Contribute.

Enterprise Software

Information Technology & Communications provides technical support for the servers, database management systems and software for the following Enterprise Software Systems:

  • Sungard Banner - Student, Financial Aid, Human Resource and Finance information systems
  • Adirondack - Campus Housing management
  • Nuvision - One Card campus identification
  • CollegeNet R25 - Room and Events Scheduling

Desktop Computers

The College's computer replacement plan ensures that all computer hardware is current and managed effectively.  IT is responsible for overseeing and executing the replacement plan. Office desktop computers are covered under manufacturer warranty and replaced every six years.  Computer Lab computers are replaced every three years.

Notebook Computers

Departments are responsible for funding the purchase and replacement of notebook computers.  IT prepares the purchase requistions in behalf of the departments to ensure that the notebook complies with standards.  IT takes delivery of the notebook, installs standard desktop and encryption software and delivers the notebook to the department.
