Concurrent

Appropriately qualified high school students may register for classes through the University that are not replicated through the school district curriculum as allowed by the Colorado Concurrent Enrollment Act. High school students may access these courses in three distinct ways:

  1. Taking college courses delivered in participating high schools through Western Colorado Community College’s High School Scholars and Technical Scholars Programs;
  2. Enrolling in courses at one of Colorado Mesa University's campuses through the Early Scholars Program; or
  3. Participating in the ASCENT program, a special program that allows qualifying students to pursue college full-time while being counted as a high school student.

To participate in concurrent enrollment, students must be currently enrolled in high school (public, private, or home-school) and meet all of the following in order to be considered:

  1. 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average;
  2. ACT reading score of 17 or higher;
  3. ACT English score of 18 or higher; or SAT Verbal score of 470 or higher; and
  4. ACT Math score of 19 or higher; or SAT Math score of 470 or higher.
  5. Permission of high school counselor/official.

Note: The Accuplacer placement assessment is an alternative qualifying test if the above tests have not been taken or a student wants to improve an initial test score. Accuplacer may be scheduled by contacting the University Testing Center at 970.248.1260. Each Accuplacer test costs $17.
